The Law of Nature

It is nature’s law. The little caterpillar will eat some leaves and then weave a cocoon around itself. It will stay in that secluded, small world of its own. It even may be thinks that the cocoon is the ONLY world it has. Until, a couple of months later, involuntarily, but naturally, it will break out of that cocoon. A few seconds of faltered wing-beats and the butterfly takes off. With a new zeal, it is all set to discover the new world that lies open before it.

Well, that’s how nature works for all of its creations and creatures. Yet, there is one special creature that does something very, very strange. Every time that it involuntarily breaks open the cocoon, it spreads its wings just a little- makes a faltered start at flying and then spins another cocoon around itself. At regular intervals, it is forced out of the cocoon (that’s nature’s law you see); it falters and fears and goes ahead to weave a new cocoon. After a few times of weaving a new cocoon, the creature soon buries deep within itself the ability to break out. By then, however, it will have a cocoon big enough to house 3 or maybe 4 of its kind; but only one creature would live in it. It will twirl inside its cocoon home and flap a bit also and believe that it’s seen the whole wide world- that beautiful landscape that nature has painted for it. The creature actually lives like this- born out of an egg- breathes free for a short time- spins a cocoon around itself and then keeps weaving cocoons until death comes; only death seems to liberate it from the cocoon. Strange isn’t it? Scientists have, however, found that death need not be the only answer to the liberation of this creature. There is another way….

Wondering which creature? What is the other way to set this creature free? Post your answers and comments on the blog.

Would be very stupid to guess that you are talking about humans. if there's any other createure that follows a similar pattern it woudl be very surprising.

There are several thoughts that float around in my mind as I read and re-read this one. They range from simple to exotic. But I am going to go with the foremost of them, think of it as the one that prevailed over others. Kind of like one of Ravana's heads winning the argument (yeah, I know...still can't shake off Ashok Banker :-D ). So, the cocoons we spin around ourselves are pretensions, the so many traits we take on to fulfill social obligations and the fear of breaking away from those traits. So much so that we show true glimpses of ourselves only occasionally. Many a times, we get the opportunity share and love, and even to be loved in return. But no, the cocoon is already warm and comfortable when it has only you, and so those moments of salvation are lost. Those dreams of a better world are lost in translation into reality. It's betraying yourself everyday but feeling safe in doing it. Having cleared that up, I have always believed there are many ways for this creature to be set free, or be free. Most of this has to be imbibed even before the first cocoon I guess, at an early age- Appreciate the bigger picture of life, never hold grudges, don't live in regrets, don't pent up emotions, never let others intrude or embarass you out of having fun, cherish the love that you give and receive, and...have a little faith :-) Easier said than done! Reminds me of 'Patch Adams', you got to see it. BTW, Matrix reference from you? :-P

@ Pratap- I totally agree when you say 'those moments of salvation are lost' more often than not, we are ensuring that every open door closes upon us...
but for those of us, who strive to exit from the Matrix- a zillion new doors open up and we are then, the masters of this Universe! :)
btw, I love Matrix... seen part 1 some 3-4 times... and yes, 'patch adams' is in the offing!
